About the Montana Stockgrowers Association

The mission of the Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) is to protect and enhance the business climate for family ranching in Montana. MSGA is dedicated to finding proactive solutions to the most difficult challenges facing Montana’s cattle ranching families. Our members cover the state and include ranchers of all ages, ranching operations large and small, feedlot operators, affiliate businesses, private property owners, and supporters and friends of Montana ranchers.

There are 2.6 million head of cattle in Montana, nearly three cows per person. Montana’s family ranches bring in around $1 billion a year in cash receipts to the state of Montana. That makes up around half of the cash receipts of Montana’s largest economic driver—agriculture.
