A recognized leader in the U.S. beef industry, Errol Rice joined the Montana Stockgrowers Association Inc. as Executive Vice President/Managing Director in 2006. Since that time Errol has built a responsive organization with talented staff that are keenly driven by a vision of being a premier institution that exemplifies leading global beef innovation while also preserving Montana’s complex natural landscape, history, economy, ethics and social values. Originally from Denton, Errol is a fifth generation Montanan, whose family has been farming and ranching in the state since 1877.
With a reputation for being an effective communicator and competitive team player, Errol’s strengths have been instrumental in creating a robust and proactive agenda that includes principles, values and thought leadership for which the organization stands on behalf of Montana’s ranching families, e.g. international trade, private property rights, strategic market development, agriculture policy, outreach, environment and media relations.
As a result, today’s MSGA has produced a more strategically aligned portfolio of key initiatives like Stockgrowers Inc., MSGA Research and Education Endowment Foundation, Beef Quality Assurance, Environmental Stewardship, Public Lands and Multimedia that are distinctively designed to take ranching and the beef industry into the 21st Century.
Errol’s career in the beef industry has spanned over the course of a decade and a half, beginning with leadership roles at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Errol facilitated and implemented strategic solutions to the organization’s complex communications, policy and government affairs platforms. His biggest achievement was leading a centralized effort to expand organizational opportunities for the U.S. beef industry’s live cattle marketing sector. From there, Errol rose through positions in both beef production and politics to offer MSGA a unique blend of executive acumen, global perspective, professional team building and operational enhancement.
Errol holds a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education and Extension from Montana State University. Errol has also achieved certification in Executive Leadership from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management. In 2011, Errol was named “Top Ten” industry leaders under forty by Cattle Business Weekly.
Errol’s involvement includes: Trustee, Montana State University Leadership Institute National Advisory Board; Fellow, Columbia University American Assembly Next Generation Project “U.S. Global Policy & the Future of International Institutions;” Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business Alumni Chapter; Montana State University Alumni Foundation Student Mentorship Program; NCBA Young Cattlemen’s Conference Alumni.
Errol is married to Kelley Edwards, who is a U.S. History and World Cultures teacher at Helena High School in Helena, MT. They have one son, Jack, and will welcome their second son this spring.
