HELENA, Mont. (November 1, 2022) – The Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) commends the state of Montana for their action in not providing authorization of bison grazing, construction, modifications, or electrification of fences on Flat Creek and Whiterock state allotments.

“We would like to thank Governor Gianforte and his administration for their leadership and continued perseverance on this issue. We stand with the state and agree there are deficiencies within the BLM Environmental Assessment and final grazing decision. The decision to not approve grazing on the two allotments based on the BLM EA is the right decision.”

said Jim Steinbiesser, Montana Stockgrowers Association President.

In August, MSGA along with the North and South Phillips County Grazing Districts filed an appeal on the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) decision regarding American Prairie’s grazing allotments and petitioned for a stay on this decision.

To support this legal appeal, donations can be made at www.protectopenspaces.com. The MSGA Advocacy Fund allows for a collective voice for cattle ranchers advocating for change and accountability at the state and federal levels. MSGA’s Advocacy Fund supports issues like promoting the benefits of cattle grazing, protecting cattle grazing on public lands, and holding state and federal agencies accountable.

The Montana Stockgrowers Association is a grassroots membership organization and is the trusted voice of cattle ranchers. With over 135 years of history, MSGA advocates and ensures cattle ranching remains relevant, safe and a sustainable way of life for generations to come.
