Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) has offered its support to the bipartisan Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act of 2026 (SAWA). This legislation advances solutions to strengthen the agricultural workforce and modernize the H-2A Temporary Agricultural Worker Program.

In late June, MSGA wrote to Chairman Glenn Thompson, Ranking Member Craig, and Members of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee in support of the draft legislation. The specific provisions within the bill that improve the functionality of the H-2A program and better align federal policy with the realities of modern livestock production and agriculture are consistent with MSGA’s Producer Profitability Initiative. The legislation represents meaningful progress toward creating a more reliable, predictable, and secure labor framework for agriculture.

“Ranchers and livestock producers rely on a workforce system that recognizes the full agricultural supply chain, not only activities occurring on the ranch itself, but also the production and marketing infrastructure necessary to move livestock from birth to market,” wrote Lesley Robinson, Montana Stockgrowers Association President. “This legislation represents meaningful progress toward creating a more workable, predictable, and responsive labor framework for agriculture.”

The Montana Stockgrowers Association would like to extend its gratitude to Congressman Ryan Zinke and Congressman Troy Downing for their original co-sponsorship of the bill. Their dedication to supporting a necessary reform of the H-2A visa program exhibits their commitment to limiting disruptions to the food supply and strengthening America’s livestock producers.

The Montana Stockgrowers Association is a grassroots membership organization and is the trusted voice of cattle ranchers. With over 140 years of history, MSGA advocates and ensures cattle ranching remains relevant, safe and a sustainable way of life for generations to come.
