The State Bar of Montana Brings Back Citizens’ Law School: Free Online Legal Education for the Public
The State Bar of Montana is pleased to announce the return of Citizens’ Law School 2025, a free educational series designed to give Montanans practical knowledge about the law and the justice system.
Delivered live via Zoom each Wednesday evening, Citizens’ Law School makes it easy for people across the state to participate and learn directly from respected judges, attorneys, and legal experts who donate their time to teach in the program.
Upcoming sessions include:
- Oct. 1 – Tribal Law, Courts and Jurisdiction in Montana – Danna Jackson, Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes
- Oct. 8 – Montana Family Law and Dependent Neglect Issues – Juli Pierce, Juli Pierce Law
- Oct. 15 – Substance Abuse and Criminal Justice in Montana – Brian Smith, Office of Public Defender & Jake Lapke, Treatment Court Coord., Montana Judicial Branch
- Oct. 22 – The Federal Judiciary and the Constitution – U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen DeSoto
- Oct. 29 – A Day in the Life of a Montana Judge – Montana District Court Judges Kaydee Snipes-Ruiz, Jessica Fehr & Mike Menahan
- Nov. 5 – Montana Property Law, Including Easements and HOAs – Hertha Lund, Lund Law, PLLC
- Nov. 12 – Montana Landlord-Tenant Law – Amy Hall, Montana Legal Services Assoc.
- Nov. 19 – Montana Constitutional Law – Assistant Professor Constance Van Kley, Blewett School of Law at the University of Montana
“Citizens’ Law School is about giving people the knowledge they need to better understand their rights and responsibilities, and to see firsthand how lawyers and judges carry out their important work,” said Assistant Professor Anna Conley, of the Blewett School of Law and chair of the State Bar’s Law Related Education Committee. “An informed public makes for a stronger society, and we are grateful to the lawyers and judges who generously volunteer their time each year to bring this free program to communities across Montana.”
