HELENA, Mont. (June 25, 2025) – The Montana Stockgrowers Foundation (MSF), along with the Ansotegui family are proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Raymond Ansotegui Overeducated Cowboy Scholarship. Three students were selected from a number of qualified applicants. The 2025 recipients are Mariah Creason, Andy Moore, and Carissa Workman.

The Ansotegui Family established this memorial fund in 2023 following the passing of Ansotegui to honor his passion for merging education with the ranching lifestyle. Applicants for this scholarship must be seeking a career beneficial to the field of animal husbandry.

Congratulations to the 2025 Overeducated Cowboy Scholarship recipients:

Mariah Creason grew up on a family owned and operated ranch in Livingston’s Paradise Valley consisting of a working dairy, a small cow-calf operation, and a small farm flock of Suffolk sheep. Her parents, Darel Creason and Laura Mitchell, were both active in youth organizations and she has proudly followed suit being a past long time 4-H member. She will be entering her junior year at MSU in the fall of 2025, majoring in animal science-livestock management. Following graduation, she intends to use the skills learned at MSU by returning home to assist with the management of her family’s ranching operation.

Andy Moore is from Miles City and is going to be an incoming senior in the fall of 2025, studying animal science. Back in Miles City, Moore grew up on his family’s cattle feeding operation where he built a drive for the industry. After college, he plans to continue in the nutrition field by working at feedyards in the south and midwest regions of the country. Eventually, he plans to return to Miles City to continue to grow his family’s operation.

Carissa Workman was raised on a cattle ranch in Grass Range, where her parents worked as ranch managers. She earned a degree in Agricultural Communications from Montana State University before deciding to shift her career path toward healthcare. Now a doctorate of physical therapy student at the University of Montana, Carissa is on track to graduate in 2027. After graduation, she plans to return to rural Montana to improve access to healthcare in agricultural communities.
