The Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) invites Montana ranchers and industry professionals to hear from cattle industry experts during its Annual Convention and Trade Show on December 7-9, 2022 in Billings, Montana. MSGA has booked a dynamic lineup of leaders in agriculture and beyond to give attendees an educational and informative experience.

Troy Applehans, Market Specialist of CattleFax, will give convention attendees a cattle marketing update and outlook during the Opening General Session on Thursday, December 9. Applehans has worked with Cattle Today, American Gelbvieh Association, Express Personnel, and Future Beef Operations. Applehans started his career at CattleFax in late 2003 and now serves as their Marketing Specialist. His responsibilities include covering cow-calf and stocker members in the southern plains and southeastern states, as well as feedyards in Colorado, western Nebraska and the corn-belt.

During the Northern Ag Network and Best of Beef Lunch, attendees will hear updates from Ethan Lane, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Vice President of Government Affairs, and Dr. Waded Cruzado, Montana State University (MSU) President. Prior to his role as the Vice President of Government Affairs, Lane was the Executive Director for the Public Lands Council and Senior Executive Director of the NCBA Federal Lands portfolio. Since January 2010, Dr. Waded Cruzado has served as the 12th President of Montana State University, and during that time she has significantly reshaped the face and future of the state’s first land-grant institution.

Karen Budd-Falen, of Budd Falen Law Office, LLC, will address attendees during General Session II to give insights regarding MSGA and its partner’s recent appeal on the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) decision regarding American Prairie’s grazing allotments. Budd-Falen has assisted local governments in asserting their rights of consistent review, cooperation and coordination in federal agency decisions; private property owners in protecting their Constitutionally guaranteed property rights, and other multiple users in supporting grazing and multiple-use on federal/public lands.

Karen Eddington, founder of The Under Pressure Project, will wrap up the speaking events with a session tackling mental health in agriculture. As a mental health advocate, Eddington uses patterns discovered through interviews to help audiences see how to pass through a breaking point and start the conversation about mental health in agriculture.

It is not too late to join ranchers from around the state and attend the upcoming event. Registration for MSGA’s 138th Annual Convention and Trade Show will be available onsite at the DoubleTree Hotel in Billings, December 7 – 9, 2022. Find more information at www.mtbeef.org.
