In June, the Montana Stockgrowers Association’s Board of Directors met for our June board meeting to discuss the issues facing our industry.

Much of meeting focused on the cattle market disruptions and gathering information on the various alternative strategies to address the current market situation.

The board invited a broad range of speakers to share their strategies.

One group of speakers was Matt Deppe, Dustin Puhrmann, & Brad Kooima of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association on the proposed 50/14 legislation.

The other was with Jordan Levi, founder of Arcadia Asset Management, on a new concept to increase price discovery and negotiated trade described as “Bid the Grid.”

It is the intention of MSGA to share this information with our Montana ranchers and gather input as we develop policy regarding this issue at our MidYear Meeting and Annual Convention.
