What We Do

At the Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA), we are dedicated to preserving and promoting the future of cattle ranching in Montana. For over 140 years, our grassroots, non-profit organization has been a strong voice for ranchers, advocating for policies that protect the land, livestock, and legacy of our industry. Our mission is to ensure that cattle ranching remains a safe, relevant, and sustainable way of life for generations to come.
Through a variety of innovative programs, MSGA supports the growth and success of ranchers across the state. From the Producer Profitability Initiative and Seedstock & Commercial Cattle Directory to the Environmental Stewardship Award Program, we are committed to elevating the cattle industry. We also invest in the next generation of leaders through the M Bar Leadership Academy and Young Cattlemen’s Conference, and recognize members giving back to their association through the Top Hand program. Fundraising efforts like the Blue & Gold Massey Ferguson Tractor Raffle help us continue our work on behalf of Montana ranchers while supporting our Montana FFA chapters.
Blue & Gold Massey Ferguson Tractor Raffle
Each year the Montana Stockgrowers Association and Massey Ferguson partner and raffle a four (4) month tractor lease. This year, MSGA and Massey Ferguson are offering an opportunity for FFA chapters around the state to use our partnership as a fundraising tool for their chapters to help raise funds from travel, state convention, chapter activities, or national convention. Participating Montana FFA Chapters will receive 50% of the proceeds from the tickets they sell.
Learn MoreEnvironmental Stewardship Award Program (ESAP)
Each year, the Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) honors a Montana ranch that exemplifies environmental stewardship and demonstrates a commitment toward improved sustainability within the beef industry. While the program highlights industry stewardship, it also provides cattlemen with examples and ideas which may be useful on their own farming and ranching operations.
Learn MoreM Bar Leadership Academy
The Montana Stockgrowers Associations M Bar Academy fosters and grows leaders in the Montana ranching industry and provides individuals the opportunity to improve leadership skills, gain understanding of industry issues, and develop the expertise needed to provide leadership in Montana Stockgrowers, its partner organizations, public service, and in the cattle industry.
Learn MoreProducer Profitability Initiative
The Producer Profitability Initiative is a grassroots movement started by cattle ranchers and led by cattle ranchers who have a vision to create a sustainable future for the American livestock industry. This initiative is intended to encompass ranchers of all ages, management styles, operations large and small, feedlot operators, affiliate businesses, private property owners, and supporters of the livestock industry whose livelihood and identity are tied to ranching and whose focus is to ensure the sustainability of the American livestock industry while providing security for the domestic food supply.
Seedstock & Commercial Cattle Directory
The Montana Seedstock and Commercial Cattle Directory, published each August by the Montana Stockgrowers Association, is your resource for Montana cattle. This premier directory is mailed to MSGA members, livestock markets, feeders, and cattle buyers across the U.S. It is also distributed at the numerous national and statewide trade shows, seedstock sales, and other national and state agricultural events.
Top Hand
The Top Hand Program is the Montana Stockgrowers Association’s member recruitment program that recognizes outstanding members within the association who have shown commitment in building a stronger organization.
Young Cattlemen’s Conference
Since 1980, the Young Cattlemen’s Conference (YCC) tour has been a proven success in identifying and developing potential leaders for the beef industry. With more than 1,000 beef producers having graduated from the YCC program, many alumni continue to participate in industry committees, councils, and serve on boards, even going on to become national officers.
