USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA)

The Emergency Conservation Program and Emergency Forest Restoration Program can assist landowners and forest stewards with financial and technical assistance to restore fencing, damaged farmland or forests. 

Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP): Provides benefits to eligible livestock owners or contract growers for livestock deaths in excess of normal mortality caused by eligible loss conditions, including eligible adverse weather, eligible disease and attacks by animals reintroduced into the wild by the federal government or protected by federal law, including wolves and avian predators.

Emergency Livestock Assistance Program (ELAP): Covers losses due to an eligible adverse weather or loss condition, including blizzards, disease (including cattle tick fever), water shortages and wildfires, as determined by the Secretary.

Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP): Provides compensation to eligible livestock producers who have suffered grazing lossesfor covered livestock.

USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

Deadline: NRCS accepts applications for all programs year-round, producers and landowners should apply for this opportunity by October 25, 2024, to be considered for this funding cycle. 

Eligibility: Farmers, ranchers, and forestland owners impacted by the following fires may be eligible for NRCS wildfire recovery assistance.

  • Deadman Complex (Bull, Deadman, Haywood, McGhee, Nelson Draw, Three Circle)
  • Four Mile
  • Otter Road
  • Prairie
  • Remington

NRCS is offering technical and financial assistance through its Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) to agricultural landowners impacted by 2024 wildfires in Big Horn, Powder River, and Rosebud counties.
