MSGA Welcomes the Rescission of the 2024 Public Lands Rule

The Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA) welcomes today’s announcement from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) which published its final rule to rescind the highly-contested 2024 Public Lands Rule, also known as the Conservation and Landscape Health Rule. Full rescission is welcomed news for public lands management across the West and for all users who would have been unfairly and illegally disadvantaged under future administration’s preference for one use over another. The final rule goes into effect in 30 days on June 11, 2026.

MSGA has been outspoken in its fundamental opposition to the rule and its equal valuation of non-use of lands in the name of conservation, to lands with multiple uses. Throughout the rulemaking process, the BLM declined to engage in meaningful discussion among key stakeholders, blatantly ignored concerns of public lands users, and undermined long-standing precedent and regulations around the BLM’s multiple-use mandate.

MSGA remains committed to defending ranching families, protecting multiple-use public lands, and ensuring federal agencies follow established law in land management decisions.
