Industry Involvement: I moved back to my family’s farm and ranch in the summer of 2020. I am a fifth generation rancher but the first generation to live on the place that we currently have full time. My father has been in banking his whole life and has put our place together from scratch. We run 500 head of commercial black angus cattle, crop 6,000 acres and sell hay. I manage the day-to-day operations and have started leasing my own places, adding to the family.
Leadership Service: Collegiate Stockgrowers at MSU President (2017 – 2018), Wheatland County Stockgrowers Board (winter 2023 – present), Montana Stockgrowers Association Young Stockgrowers Vice Chair (2022 – 2023), Montana Stockgrowers Association Young Stockgrowers Vice Chair (2023 – 2024).
Challenges Facing the Beef Industry: I think that the beef industry will always maintain sustainability. A few major challenges that worry me the most about the industry are the barriers to entry as a young producer, the drastic rise in cost of equipment and land being bought up and taken out of production agriculture.
